The Hop clover is a pretty common plant. It is actually a relative of the pea family. These can be eaten as is right off the plant. You can consume the flower heads, the leaves and potentially other parts of this plant. They are a great source of protein, which is just what every survivalist and backpacker needs.
How to Eat the Wild Edible Hop Clover Plant
There are multiple ways to consume this nutritious plant.
- You can eat the leaves and the flowers raw right off the stalk
- Make the Flowers and leaves into a healthy tea
- Dry the heads of the Hop clover and mash them into a flower, this will allow you to get even more creative.
These are a widespread plant and are a great one to be able to identify. These closely resemble the black medic plant, actually they are very hard to differentiate. The black medic is also an edible plant which makes this a fairly safe plant to consume.
The Black medic has a longer middle leaf and stem and tends to not as much have a reddish colored stalk. Both the hop clover and the black medic plant when consumed as a wild edible should be lightly cooked just to be on the safe side. It is common to eat them raw as mentioned above, but species of plants in this category often have bacteria that could possibly be harmful to some people.
