In this short video, I set out to film super close up hits on dry flies. I didn’t get that “absolute perfect money shot” I’m always looking for, but I managed to shoot some pretty good clips I think. Dozens of nice cutthroat eats on camera. I left out a lot of classic fish holding footage and such here and just kept it simple and quick. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
At one point in this video I set my camera to slow motion and tied on a salmonfly pattern and a very long nymph dropper. I deliberately casted the nymph into the bushes so the salmonfly is buzzing around in the air to capture jumping fish. This actually worked out, as you can see in the video intro. I found it interesting that at one point the fish is trying to splash the bug into the water by slapping it’s tail!
