The thing about whitefish is that they compete for food with trout and they are usually overly plentiful in most areas that they exist. Take for instance the South fork of the Snake in Idaho (Where I caught these whitefish) the trout population has declined slightly since 2012, but the mountain whitefish population has grown from 11,427 per mile in 2012 to 15,793 per mile in 2016. That is a lot of whitefish! (Idaho fish and game link)
Watch for the cooking portion of this video to come out very soon! I cleaned and cooked these mountain whitefish and they were amazing!
